Personal Insurance FAQs

Does home insurance already cover gadgets and jewellery?

Standard home contents insurance often includes some cover for personal items, but usually with a single-item value limit that high-value gadgets, jewellery or watches can exceed. Specialist personal insurance can cover these items at their full value and away from home.

Is pet insurance worth it in the UK?

This depends on your circumstances and risk tolerance. Veterinary treatment for serious illness or injury can be expensive, and pet insurance spreads that cost as a regular premium rather than a large one-off bill — but it's a personal financial decision based on the animal, breed and your own savings buffer.

Do I need travel insurance if I have an EHIC or GHIC card?

A GHIC (Global Health Insurance Card) can give access to state-provided healthcare in the EU on the same terms as a resident, but it doesn't cover everything travel insurance does, such as repatriation, lost luggage, cancellation or private treatment. It's generally not a substitute for travel insurance.

What is legal expenses insurance?

Legal expenses insurance covers the cost of legal advice and representation for certain types of dispute, such as employment issues or contract disagreements, up to the policy limit — it does not cover the cost of any damages you might be ordered to pay.
